Shilajit, also known as shilajit..it is a thick, sticky tar-like substance sometimes found in Caucasus mountains, Altai mountains and Tibet mountains.
It is bitter in taste, and its smell resembles cow's stale urine. The botanical
name of Shilajit is Asphaltum (mineral pitch).Its Sanskrit meaning is
"conqueror of mountains and destroyer of weakness."
Shilajit and Health :
Shilajit is most
important drug for many diseases. It was used as a drug in prehistoric periods.
There is evidence of Shilajit (Silajatu) in the Indus civilization.
Traditionally it is used as power increasing tonic. The following health
properties are found in Shilajit:
- Helps accelerate processes of protein and nucleic acid metabolism
and
stimulates energy providing reactions.
- Counteracts Diabetes and regulates the blood sugar level.
- Purifies blood, improves functioning of pancreas and strengthens
digestion.
- Reduces fat, dissolves tumours, and counteracts thirst.
- Promotes the movement of minerals, especially calcium,
phosphorous, and
magnesium into muscle tissue and bone.
- Stimulates the immune system and improves restoration (recovery)
after
exercise.
- Increases levels of growth hormone in diabetic patients and is a
potent anti-
ulcer agent.

Shilajit Side Effects:
Shilajit side effects are
of course possible, just like you can have side effects with any other
naturally occurring health remedy. Most people report no side effects
whatsoever.
You are recommended to
avoid mixing it with medication, other vitamins and minerals, as Shilajit
already contains a high concentration of iron.
Another Shilajit side
effect is that for some people, it may worsen your existing gout condition.
The above Shilajit side
effects are still very rare and there are currently no other reported effects
that you should be aware of.
Shilajit For Treating
male sexual dysfunctions - Premature Ejaculation :
Some men report that
Shilajit can treat premature ejaculation.
Men have also reported an
increase in erection duration and hardness.
As anxiety and stress are
among the main causes of erectile dysfunction, reducing anxiety levels can be
very beneficial for erections and sexual performance.
Shilajit is most commonly
known for being beneficial to male sexual dysfunction, but women can also
benefit from using this supplement.
DOSAGE:
Administered with milk
this elixir brings long life and happiness and prevents aging and disease.
Administration of 1/2 gm,
daily for seven weeks is said to have excellent effects.
According to the Astanga
Hrdayam the minimum, moderate and maximum dosage is mentioned.
Shilajit is important for
edema, particularly in weak types, 1-2 grams twice a day with water or milk.
The dose of shilajit is
usually quite low at around 125-250 mg twice per day. However, in
diabetes, it has been recommended in much higher
doses such as 1 g twice
per day.
Shilajit mixes well with
ashwagandha for seminal debility and with gokshura as a urinary tonic.
For the treatment of both
male and female infertility, it can be taken in unusually high doses of 1 tsp
twice per day.
For men combine with
ashwagandha and for women with shatavari.
